This really needed its own post. It is McCain's new commercial attacking the two "extremes" on climate change. Yes, apparerently Al Gore is equal to head-in-the-sand Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma.
This is more of McCain's attempt to split the difference on issues and declare himself a moderate, bipartisan kind of chap. No matter what the two sides are, when he places himself squarely in the middle, it is the right place to be. So I assume if one side said slavery was wrong, and the other said it was right, then if McCain said slavery had some benefits but shouldn't have been continued, that would be the lofty middle ground in McCain World.
Here is the ad and the transcript is below:
"A Better Way" -- (TV-:30)
ANNCR: Our environment in peril,
Oil and food prices out of control,
Climate change wreaks havoc with deadly weather.
One extreme thinks high taxes and crippling regulation is the solution.
Another denies the problem even exists.
There's a better way.
JOHN MCCAIN: I believe that climate change is real.
It's not just a greenhouse gas issue.
It's a national security issue.
We have an obligation to future generations to take action and fix it.
I'm John McCain and I approve this message.

How does McCain/McBush/McFlipFlop/McPander to Right Wing Religious Nutcases propose to deal with the environment precisely since his votes in the Senate have been anything but Green or environmentally friendly?
Standing on it’s own, that ad will be quite effective. The DNC should counter with an ad showing just how “middle of the road” McBush really is.
Boxturtle (FWIW, I think he’s 100% correct that it’s a national security issue)
I agree Box. But do you really think McCain agrees with that, or is doing that to win moderate suburban voters? His record speaks for itself. As is so often the case with McCain this is quite simply, rhetoric not matched by his actions….
I also agree that the DNC needs to respond. He cannot be allowed to define himself falsely this way…
Of course he’s pandering to moderate Suburban voters. Wise man once told me 80% of the vote is decided before the the primary has even begun and we’re fighting over the remaining 20%. This will play well there, it’s good common sense.
That’s why somebody (like the DNC) needs to point out he doesn’t practice what he preaches. I think that almost anything he says to pander to that 20% can be countered with a “What he SAYS, what he DOES” kind of ad.
Boxturtle (Would PAY to do that ad campaign)
I haven’t seen any more efficient fuel use iinitiatives in the Senate (20 years) or House (5 years) by McCain who also offers an absurd gas tax vacation for short term benefit $28 average per month with a result that the demand increased fuel consumption would exhaust the supply.
Calls at 3AM? (Prepared by fictional sniper fire?) The Clintons are so damn dumb and selfish they couldn’t manage to save the life of their 4-year-old chocolate labrador Buddy hit by a car on Wednesday January 2, 2002 on busy Route 117.
Only an imbecile leaves home with their dog in the yard (invisible fences are about as reliable as the Bush administration during Katrina to present. No Naval Observatory or much future in the Senate. Hillary Racist Clinton needs to hightail it back to Chippequa and be monitored as to appropriate dog care before she thinks about any other responsibilities.
They should have been jailed for cruelty to animals. Do they leave the precious Chelsea who has no background for her $200,000 plus job and didn’t buy her $3.5 million apartment at age 30 running around in the yard eating dirt on a busy 2 lane street while they were away?
Here’s the ad for Obama Move On will spend $200,000 on.
The ad was chosen by judges Oliver Stone, Ben Afleck, and Matt Damon.
I wonder if the rich Clintons who won’t release the source of the majority of their $109 million, their 2007 tax returns, or their library contributions will contribute.
Move On’s Finalist in their Obama Ad Contest
From MSNBC’s First Read:
Obama’s Super Comeback
Obama has taken the lead in what was once Clinton’s formidable superdelegate lead, according to NBC News’ count. The endorsement of Hawaii’s Dolly Strazar put the Illinois senator over the top in what is the last measurement by which he trailed in this race to the Democratic nomination. Obama picked up three other superdelegates today to expand that lead to 279 to 276.5. (Hawaii Sen. Daniel Akaka, Idaho state party chairman R. Keith Roark and Maine congressman Tom Allen were the others).
Obama’s crawl to overtaking Clinton among superdelegates has been a steep, but steady climb since Super Tuesday, Feb. 5, when Clinton held a 90-person superdelegate lead, 260 to 170.
Here’s a timeline of superdelegate numbers:
- Feb. 5: Clinton 260-170
- Feb. 28 (after Obama’s winning streak of 11-straight contests): Clinton 254-204
- March 6 (after OH/TX/RI/VT): 254-215
- March 14 (After Obama’s wins in WY 3/8; MS 3/11): Clinton 253-217
- March 31: Clinton 255-222
- April 15: Clinton 257-231
- April 23 (the day after the PA primary): Clinton 263-239
- April 30: Clinton 268-248
- May 5 (day before Indiana/NC primaries): Clinton 272.5-256
- May 12: Obama 279-276.5
