According To The National Republican Congressional Committee’s Communications Director, “there are no safe Republican seats in this election.”By: Cliff Schecter Friday June 27, 2008 12:44 pm |
I could have told her that, of course, but it is still interesting to hear someone in that position admit this: House Republicans lost three recent elections when customary campaign themes failed to sway voters and their candidates could not overcome the "negative perception of the national party," according to an internal review that underscores the potential for widespread losses this fall. GOP candidates on the ballot in November must show "deep empathy
McCain’s On-Again, Off-Again Relationship With The Religious RightBy: Cliff Schecter Friday June 27, 2008 12:33 pm |
John McCain has had a storied career with leading voiced of the Christian Right. He called the late Reverend Jerry Falwell an "agent of intolerance" in 2000, only to speak at his Liberty University in 2007. He sought the endorsement of the Reverends Hagee and Parlsey, only to reject them after one to many glowing references to a) Adolph Hitler b) a religious war with Islam. So now the McCain Camp is
Understanding McCain’s Authoritarianism - “I feel that, in the context of history, Watergate will be a very minor item”By: Cliff Schecter Friday June 27, 2008 11:32 am |
I think we have found the quote that crystallizes the whole McCain belief system. This is from our friends at Crooks & Liars, specifically the great Nicole Belle, who obviously has kept up on her McCain reading: Well, here’s what McCain said (about Nixon and Watergate) at the time, according to the book that I’m currently reading entitled Man of the People:
Ohio Democratic Party Ties McCain To Bush’s EconomyBy: Cliff Schecter Friday June 27, 2008 9:25 am |
This is going to be a serious problem for John McCain. States like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Iowa and others he needs to win in the Midwest have seen jobs flee abroad, while employer-provided healthcare, under $4-a-gallon gas and positive feelings about the state of our country have gone with them. This is what you read in our major newspapers: Nearly one in 10 Ohioans now receives food stamps, the highest number in the
John McCain’s Wife Beating JokeBy: Cliff Schecter Friday June 27, 2008 9:17 am |
John McCain made what you can consider an inappropriate joke during an interview with Las Vegas Sun reporter Jon Ralston: (On why he didn't choose Gov. Jim Gibbons to chair his Nevada campaign?) I appreciate his support. As you know, the lieutenant governor is our chairman. (Why snub the governor?) I didn’t mean to snub him,.
Sen. Cornyn Vulnerable In TexasBy: Cliff Schecter Thursday June 26, 2008 11:30 am |
As if the National Republican Senatorial Committee Needed any more bad news. There is, um, more bad news. A new poll out of Texas shows the Senate race in a dead heat, with Republican incumbent John Cornyn with 38%, Democratic challenger Rick Noriega at 36% and 24% undecided. Only 23% of Texans think the country is headed on the right track. With recent news that the Obama Campaign is going to

Sen. Obama Officially Gets The AFL-CIO EndorsementBy: Cliff Schecter Thursday June 26, 2008 10:54 am |
This is no huge surprise, but as you may remember, we broke a story here at the Campaign Silo about a visit Obama had to AFL-CIO HQ last week--and how in a testament to lingering resentements from the primary, he left without an expected endorsement. So while expected, this is still big news, re progressives finally coming together after a tough primary battle.
The Obama Campaign Does The DNCBy: Cliff Schecter Wednesday June 25, 2008 1:39 pm |
David Plouffe, Sen. Obama's campaign manager, gave a presentation you could nickname "viability in Powerpoint" to the DNC and members of the media in Washington today. It shows that Obama is consolidating Democrats, performing extraordinarily among women and well among Hispanics in recent polling, and of course is turning red states such as Virginia, Florida and Missouri blue. It is very interesting, and shows what kind of historic year this can
An Instant Classic: John Mccain “Is Aware Of The Internet”By: Cliff Schecter Wednesday June 25, 2008 7:03 am |
I was at the Personal Democracy Forum conference in New York City yesterday, and was shown an early version of what has become a hysterical viral video. Russo, an online guru for the Edwards Campaign and Mark Soohoo, the guy who has to explain to McCain everyday that the Internet is not run by pedaling a bike-like apparatus from the Flintstones, had this back and forth that is just hysterical.
